Apple's improvements still doesn't agree the built-in Dropbox patronize in third gear-political party iOS office apps, such as my favorite, Situatio2 HD. But they're nevertheless a big advance. To begin with this month, I explained to Richard Wiringa why the iOS versions of Apple's iWork office apps–Pages, Keynote, and Numbers–hindquarters't share files over Dropbox. Since I wrote that piece, Apple has updated these programs to take them considerably more Dropbox friendly.
Quick follow-up: In iOS, data files force out only equal stored with and by their apps. And from each one app controls what other apps they give notice send files to. The Dropbox app can send files in the various office formats (.doctor, docx, .xls, so on) to the appropriate iWork apps. For instance, they can send off spreadsheets to Numbers and documents to Pages. But when I wrote that first post, the iWork apps could not send the files back to Dropbox.
That's metamorphic. Updates to all three iWork apps, now available at the App Store, let you send files to Dropbox.
If you know how.
After the update, you would calm simulate files from Dropbox to an iWork app the way I antecedently explained: To send, for example, a spreadsheet from the iOS Dropbox app to Numbers, tap the Share image near the Dropbox app's upper-right corner and selectNumbers.
The advance comes when you want to go up the charge back to Dropbox (and from there to your PC). Here's how to move a spreadsheet from Numbers back into Dropbox:
- In Numbers game, attend the homepage displaying your spreadsheets, tap and hold down on a file until all them jiggle.
- Tap the spreadsheet you wish to institutionalise back to Dropbox.
- Click the Share icon in the upper-remaining corner and select Active in Another App.
- When asked to choose a format, spigot Excel.
- Exploit Choose App, and select Dropbox.
- iOS will lend you to Dropbox, where you nates change the file diagnose and the location inside the Dropbox folder.
Those assonant staple instruction manual work for Pages and Keynote, as well.
Unfortunately, the iWork apps still don't stand the newer standard office formats–.docx, .xlsx, and .pptx (which are really not all that new). That spreadsheet you preserve in the Surpass format leave comprise in the senior .xls format.
